The Beverage Ordinance will do great environmental damage to the Sammamish Valley

All KC Councilmembers, as well as Dow Constantine

Subject: Appealing the GMHB Order on the Beverage Ordinance is a waste of taxpayer resources

Message:

I fully support the GMHB Order which invalidated key provisions of the deeply flawed Adult Beverage Ordinance. The Board rightly rebuked the County for brazenly ignoring the Ordinance’s potential environmental harm and impacts on infrastructure - which frankly is what citizens, organizations and businesses have been telling the county in-person and in emails like this one for more than two years. Please stop wasting precious County time and taxpayer dollars on further legal defense of this dead-on-arrival Ordinance. Do not appeal the GMHB decision! County budgets are already hugely strained by the impacts of the Covid pandemic. The County has many higher priority issues including the pandemic, social justice, homelessness, transportation infrastructure, and climate change. The County should not waste even more taxpayer dollars attempting to open protected farmland and rural residential areas to incompatible commercial uses. It should instead proceed constructively to enforce code against the handful of illegally operating adult beverage businesses. By focusing resources on top priority issues, the County can heal and re-emerge even stronger from the current Covid and social justice traumas. This is a time that tests the courage of everyone, from elected officials to individual citizens like me. Please step up and do the right thing for the people of King County!
